# Allows us to keep track of who wrote what and when.

The CS-wiki site was started more or less as an investigation of how we could improve our ability to disseminate information on our computing maintenance activities in a non serial way ie in a non structured way. The idea was taken from the Wikipedia site] (also in Greek). Our first efforts to keep track of our activities were with traditional web pages but we soon found that they were not so flexible for the informal attitute we wanted to maintain. They were also not so easy to maintain because several people were working on them in a simultaneous manner. We knew that some expensive Content management systems existed for the job but who wants to operate an expensive and difficult to learn software when you discover the wiki method?

We use the Mediawiki software for this site. This allows us to:

  1. Maintain a consistent look across pages automatically
  2. Build content easily as we go
  3. Separate content into two areas
    1. For users that are interested in a more technical view of our operations. For the non technical approach look at the Computing Site.
    2. For the support personnel we have created a restricted are where more sensitive data exists.
  4. Allows us to keep track of who wrote what and when.
