OS Related

IBM AIX 5L V5.1 (32 bit or 64 bit) or later, or AIX 5.2 (32 bit or 64 bit), or AIX 5.3 (32 bit or 64 bit)
Note: When running AIX 5L with a 32-bit kernel, you must use the 32-bit version of TSM 5.3. Likewise, when running AIX 5L with a 64-bit kernel, you must use the 64-bit version of TSM 5.3.

TSM ver5.3

* There is no problem to migrate to ver5.3 from any previous version
* It is recommended that you immediately apply version 5.3.0.2 or 5.3.1 (or latest maintenance release) after upgrading to version 5.3.0.

Things to do prior upgrading- More info at [1]

 * Backup TSM database  with type=full devclass=tape_device
 * backup devconfig
 * backup volhistory
 * Save the following important files, which are in the default directory for the Tivoli Storage Manager server:
 * volhist (file name depends on what you specified with the backup volhistory command)
 * devconfig (file name depends on what you specified with the
 * backup devconfig command)
 * dsmserv.opt
 * dsmserv.dsk

Hardware needed

  • csmstmr server
  • HDD Storage needed
 At least 88MB of disk space temporarily available for extracting the installation filesets from the tar.gz file. The Storage Agent
 will require at least 40MB of temporary disk space.

  • Tape drives :
 Ultrium 3581-L23 (Ultrium2)
Ultrium 3581-L23 (Ultrium2)
4mm tape drive
  • Tivoli Storage Manager device definitions are saved during a migrate installation from Tivoli Storage Manager Version 5.1, Version 5.2, * and Version 5.3. To install the new Tivoli Storage Manager drivers, you must have the output from the following commands:
